In December 2017, public health officials in Minnesota investigated an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness at a restaurant in Edina. Six cases from different dining parties were identified. Meal dates ranged from December 16 to December 19. No one was hospitalized and no one died.

All six cases reported diarrhea. The median incubation period was 36 hours (range, 23 to 50 hours). No stool specimens were submitted for laboratory testing.

Edina Health Department sanitarians and Minnesota Department of Health staff interviewed 23 of the restaurant's 31 employees. Three employees reported gastrointestinal illness early in December but denied working while ill. Sanitarians did not notice any problems with bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods.

Although an etiology was not confirmed, the incubation periods and symptoms of cases were characteristic of norovirus. A specific food vehicle was not identified.
