In February 2017, Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Hennepin County Public Health (HCPH) staff investigated an outbreak of norovirus at a chain restaurant in Rogers, Minnesota. Twelve outbreak associated cases were identified. No one was hospitalized and no one died. The implicated meal date was February 23, 2017. One ill patron submitted a stool specimen to the MDH Public Health Laboratory. Results were positive for norovirus GII.P16-GII.4 Sydney.

Ten of 23 restaurant employees reported recent gastrointestinal illness. Onset of symptoms for ill employees ranged from February 13 through February 26. None of the employees reported working while ill. A routine inspection had been conducted on February 25, before reports of illnesses had been received. At that inspection the sanitarian did not note any problems with bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat-foods or issues with handwashing.

A specific food item was not implicated in the outbreak. An ill or recently ill food worker was the likely source of the outbreak.
