2017 Outbreak of Norovirus at a Mexican Restaurant, Shawnee County, Kansas
In January 2017 Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA), and Shawnee County Health Agency (SCHA) staff investigated an outbreak of norovirus at a restaurant located in Topeka. Six individuals met the case definition. Cases reported consuming food from the restaurant between January 6th and January 21st. Two specimens tested positive for norovirus. KDA inspected the restaurant three times between January 10th and January 23rd. Inspectors noted improper sanitation and hand hygiene practices. All violations were corrected on site.
