On December 27, 2017, a holiday party was held at an apartment building in Minneapolis. Twenty extended family members attended the private holiday party. Two days later, several attendees became ill with diarrhea and vomiting. A total of 8 outbreak cases were identified. No one was hospitalized and no one died. One stool specimen was positive collected in an emergency department was positive for norovirus.

The party was a potluck and included many food items either commercially prepared or prepared in private homes. Cases and controls consumed several food items. A specific vehicle was not identified. It is possible the outbreak was caused by an ill family member who prepared food prior to the event but this was not proven.
