In November 2017, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health (HCPH) and the Minneapolis Health Department (MHD) investigated and outbreak of norovirus among people who attended a wedding reception held at an event center. The reception was held on November 11.

Twenty-six attendees were interviewed. Sixteen attendees met the case definition. One person was hospitalized. No one died. Two stool specimens collected from attendees were positive for norovirus GII.P31-GII.4 Sydney.

All cases reported eating a variety of food items. In univariate analysis, no food item was significantly associated with illness.

MHD sanitarians conducted an environmental assessment at the event center on November 21. No employees reported recent illness prior to the November 11 reception. MDH sanitarians did not note any concerning kitchen protocols. The venue had an appropriate illness policy in place and practiced proper handwashing and glove use.

The vehicle and source of contamination were not identified.
