2017 Outbreak of Norovirus, Girin, Seattle, Washington

In March 2017 Public Health Seattle King County investigated an outbreak of gastroenteritis among patrons of Girin Restaurant located in Seattle. Four people from a single household reported symptoms consistent with norovirus following a meal that was consumed on March 18, 2017. There was no laboratory confirmation of norovirus. As part of the investigation, environmental health specialists conducted an onsite investigation on March 22. During the field investigation inspectors identified a violation related to improper handwashing which is a risk factor for norovirus. The restaurant voluntarily closed that day and was allowed to reopen on March 23 after the facility was thoroughly disinfected.
