Two cases of Salmonella 4,5,12:i:- were identified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Public Health Laboratory (MDH). Both had eaten at a restaurant located in Golden Valley, and a common food item, tuna salad, was consumed on the same day. Neither person was hospitalized and no one died.

MDH contacted 14 other patrons of the restaurant but only one person returned health department phone calls.

Three restaurant employees reported recent illness. They were excluded from work until they submitted two negative stool specimens collected at least 24 hours apart. None of the workers tested positive on either of their samples.

Hennepin County Health Department sanitarians conducted an onsite inspection of the restaurant. No issues were observed with cross-contamination or temperature of the tuna saload. No bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods was observed.
