2017 Outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis Infections at a Restaurant, Wisconsin
In November 2017 local and state public health officials in Wisconsin investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis at Le Chateau, a restaurant located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Approximately 150 people attended a "Murder Mystery" event held over the course of 3 days in October. Fifty-seven attendees were interviewed. Of those, 18 people reported symptoms consistent with salmonellosis. Five ill people were laboratory confirmed with Salmonella Enteritidis. One person as hospitalized. No one died.
Analysis of data collected in a case-control study revealed that consumption of chicken kabobs was significantly associated with illness. Multiple attendees reported that the chicken kabobs appeared to be undercooked.
