2017 Outbreak of Salmonella/Clostridium Perfringens Following Jambalaya Fundraiser, Columbia, Louisiana
In October 2017 the Louisiana Department of Health investigated an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness among persons who attended a softball team fundraising event held on October 16 in Columbia, Louisiana. Health officials detected Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens in the chicken and sausage jambalaya. State health officials said that as many as 300 people ate the jambalaya and that 158 were ill. At least 40 were hospitalized.
