In the summer of 2017, Minnesota Department of Health officials investigated an outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolytic infections. Six confirmed cases and one probable case were identified. One person was hospitalized. No one died.

Cases reported eating raw oysters from 5 different restaurants and one seafood market. Meal dates ranged from July 9 to September 22. One person purchased oysters at a market in Minneapolis on July 15.

Oyster tags were collected from all restaurants and markets except for one restaurant that did not retain oyster tags. Restaurant "A" which served oysters to two cases in September only served oysters harvested from Hammersly Inlet in Washington State. Restaurants and markets that were associated with other cases served oysters harvested from several sources in Washington and in British Columbia. Investigators were unable to determine the specific harvest source for these illnesses.
