In September 2017 Minnesota Department of Health officials investigated an outbreak of Salmonella infections among customers of two Burger King restaurants located in Bemidji, Minnesota. Most of the cases occurred in September. In late November two additional cases were identified prompting the health department to close the two restaurants. As of December 1, 2017, there were 27 confirmed cases and 4 probable cases. Transmission was thought to be via employee illness rather than a contaminated food item.
