2018 Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Agbeni Linked to Duncan Hines Cake Mix
On November 5, 2018 ConAgra Brands recalled four varieties of Duncan Hines cake mix after officials in Oregon detected Salmonella Agbeni in a box of Duncan Hines Classic White Cake Mix. Five states (Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin) reported 7 case patients diagnosed with Salmonella Agbeni with a closely related whole genome sequencing (WGS) result to the strain isolated in the cake mix. Illnesses started on June 13, 2018 to October 5, 2018. No one was hospitalized and there were no deaths.
