On July 18, 2018 the CDC issued a Food Safety Alert announcing a multistate outbreak of Salmonella serotype Sandiego infections associated with consumption of Hy-Vee, Inc. Spring Pasta Salad. A final update of the outbreak description was issued on September 5, 2018. Investigators identified 101 outbreak associated cases reported by 10 states. Twenty-five people were hospitalized. There were no deaths. Illness started on dates ranging from June 21, 2018 to August 7, 2018. Epidemiologic evidence indicated that Spring Pasta Salad purchased at Hy-Vee grocery stores was a likely source of this outbreak.

On July 16, 2018 Hy-Vee, Inc. removed Spring Pasta Salad products from all of its stores. On July 17, 2018, Hy-Vee, Inc. recalled its Spring Pasta Salad because it might be contaminated with Salmonella.
