2018 Multistate Outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus Linked to Imported Crab Meat
On July 13, 2018 local, state and federal officials at the CDC and the FDA announced an investigation of an outbreak of Vibrio parahaemolyticus infections associated with consumption of fresh crab meat imported from Venezuela. Twenty six people infected with Vibrio parahaemolyticus who ate fresh crab meat were reported from 8 states and the District of Columbia. Nine people were hospitalized and no deaths were reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from April 1, 2018 to July 19, 2018.
