2018 Outbreak of Norovirus, El Toro Restaurants, Pierce County, Washington
In late December 2017, a large outbreak of norovirus occurred among 420 restaurant patrons who dined at one of two locations of El Toro Restaurant located in Pierce County, Washington. Meal dates ranged from December 28, 2017 to January 9, 2018. A total of 420 primary cases were identified. Twenty nine secondary cases occurred. Three people were hospitalized.
Most of the cases dined at the Tacoma location at 5716 N. 26th Street. The other cases dined at the University Place location at 3820 Bridgeport Way West. Both establishments were closed for thorough cleaning and disinfection before being allowed to reopen.
