In August 2018 Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup associated with Burien Fresh Smoothies in Burien, Washington. Seven people from 3 separate dining parties reported becoming ill after consuming food and beverage from Burien Fresh Smoothies from August 6-8. Eleven outbreak associated cases were identified. Two of the ill people were hospitalized. There were no deaths. There was no indication that any of the employees at the restaurant were symptomatic.

During the environmental investigation, investigators learned that the restaurant was serving cooked pork prepared at the restaurant owner's home, which was not an approved safety practice. However, not all ill people consumed pork. Food samples were collected for testing and results were pending.
