Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) announced an outbreak of Salmonella infections associated with Fremont Bowl in Seattle. Four people from 3 separate meal parties reported illness after eating at Fremont Bowl from July 27-29, 2018. Three of the four were laboratory confirmed with Salmonella. One of the ill people was hospitalized and has since recovered.

On August 9, 2018, PHSKC Environmental Health investigators completed an inspection at Fremont Bowl where potential risk factors were identified, including inadequate hand washing, lack of temperature controls, and risk of cross contamination. On August 10, the restaurant was closed because corrective actions had not been completed. On August 13, Environmental Health returned to Fremont Bowl. They provided food safety training to all staff, confirmed that a thorough cleaning and disinfection had been completed and all processed, ready-to-eat foods had been discarded. The restaurant was allowed to re-open that day.
