In 2019 public health officials in California investigated an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 among patrons of Chacho's Restaurant located in San Jose, California. Nine people were a genetic match by WGS to the outbreak strain. Six of the 9 ill persons reported eating at Chacho's prior to illness onset. Three individuals were lost to follow-up and could not be interviewed. Thus, any connection to Chacho's Restaurant is unknown. One asymptomatic food worker was positive for the outbreak strain of STEC. Various food items were collected for testing. All food testing was negative.
