In April 2019 local and state public health officials in Illinois investigated an outbreak of norovirus among persons who consumed food at several catered events held at the Itasca County Club located in Itasca, Illinois. Food was prepared by staff at the Fox and Turtle, a facility located at the country club. Illnesses were also reported by patrons who did not attend any of the catered events but who ate at the Fox and Turtle. One hundred sixty-seven non-staff people met the outbreak case definition. Five people were hospitalized. No one died. Seven norovirus positive stool specimens were obtained from patrons. Dates of exposure ranged from April 19 to April 26, 2019. Baked goods and fresh fruit were statistically associated with illness.

A total of 83 employees were interviewed. Twenty employees reported diarrheal and/or vomiting with onset ranging from April 19 to May 1. Three employees were ill from April 19 and April 21 and reported working while ill.
