Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Reading infections associated with a private event held on April 20, 2019. Multiple potluck items were brought by party attendees. Assorted smoked and barbecued meat was also provided. Some of this meat was partially prepared at a private residence. Seven outbreak associated cases were identified. Four were laboratory confirmed. One person was hospitalized. No one died. Cases resided in Snohomish County (n=2) and King County (n=5).

Laboratory testing indicated the outbreak strain closely matched a national outbreak strain of Salmonella Reading related to raw turkey products. PHSKC investigators concluded that turkey was the likely source of illnesses in this outbreak.
