2021-2022 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections among East African Communities in King County, Washington
On August 23 2022, Public Health Seattle & King County (PHSKC) announced an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections among children, adolescents, and adults of East African communities in King County. At the time of the announcement, 7 cases had been identified. Four cases were hospitalized. There were no deaths. Dates of symptom onset ranged from December 31, 2021–August 18, 2022, with 6 cases reported since June 26, 2022. Currently all 7 of the ill people are from East African communities. The majority of ill people reported eating multiple types of meat, including goat and ground beef, during their exposure period
