2021 Outbreak of Foodborne Illness at a Residential Care Facility Associated with Raw Milk, Wisconsin
In July 2021, public health officials in Wisconsin investigated a foodborne illness outbreak associated with a long-term care/nursing home/assisted living facility. Multiple pathogens were identified: Campylobacter coli (confirmed), Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC, confirmed), Salmonella Enteritidis (suspected), Cryptosporidium (suspected), and Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC, suspected). Two people were ill. Both were hospitalized. No one died.
The vehicle of transmission was reported to be raw (unpasteurized) milk.
