2021 Outbreak of Hepatitis A Infections Associated with Famous Anthony's Restaurants, Virginia

In August 2021 local and state public health officials in Virginia investigated an outbreak of Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) infections among patrons of Famous Anthony restaurants located in Roanoke, Virginia. Implicated meal dates ranged from August 10 to August 27, 2021. Ill cases dined at three locations in Roanoke. A foodhandler who worked at all three locations was diagnosed with Hepatitis A.

A total of 51 outbreak associated cases were identified. Two of these were secondary cases. Thirty one people were hospitalized. Four cases died.
