US Outbreak:

CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states and the US FDA investigated a multistate outbreak of hepatitis A potentially linked to contaminated fresh organic strawberries. The implicated product was sold at FreshKampo or HEB between March 5, 2022 and April 25, 2022. As of May 31, 2022, a total of 17 outbreak associated cases of hepatitis A had been reported from three states. Twelve people were hospitalized. No one died.

Canada Outbreak:

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) collaborated with provincial health partners, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada to investigate an outbreak of hepatitis A linked to strawberries among residents of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Strawberries were purchased between March 5 and 9, 2022 at Co-op stores in both provinces. As of May 27, 2022 there were 10 laboratory confirmed cases. Individuals became ill between early and mid April 2022. Four individuals were hospitalized. There were no deaths.
