2022 Multistate Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 Infections Linked to HelloFresh Meal Kits
On September 10, 2022, USDA FSIS issued a Public Health Alert due to concerns that ground beef in HelloFresh meal kits was associated with E. coli O157:H7 illnesses. State and local health officials interviewed 6 of 7 patients and all 6 reported eating ground beef from HelloFresh meal kits before becoming ill. Outbreak associated patients live in Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey. Six people were hospitalized. There were no deaths.
Traceback information identified that multiple case patients received ground beef produced at establishment M46841 and distributed by HelloFresh in meal kits from July 2-21, 2022. A recall was not issued because the products are no longer available for purchase.
The outbreak was declared over on October 28, 2022.
