2022 Outbreak of E. coli O26:H11 Infections Associated with Torero's Mexican Restaurant, Renton, Washington

Between September 3 and September 7, 2022, three people from three separate meal parties reported becoming ill after eating food from Torero's Mexican Restaurant located in Renton, Washington. All three were diagnosed with an indistinguishable genetic strain of E. coli O26:H11 as determined by whole genome sequencing. No one was hospitalized and no one died.

Environmental Health investigators visited the restaurant on September 30, 2022. Investigators identified inadequate handwashing facilities and improper storage of raw meats as potential risk factors for this outbreak. No ill employees were identified.
