In early April 2022, Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) investigated an outbreak of norovirus at Il Terrazzo Carmine, a restaurant located in the Pioneer Square neighborhood of Seattle. Ten outbreak associated cases were identified. No on was hospitalized and no one died.

Ill persons were members of 3 separate meal parties who ate at the restaurant on April 2, 2022. The suspected source was raw oysters. No ill employees were identified.

PHSKC Environmental Health investigators visited the restaurant on April 5. Numerous improper food handling practices were observed including inadequate handwashing, inadequate use of barriers to prevent barehand contact with ready to eat foods, lack of temperature controls, and risk of cross contamination. Based on these findings, PHSKC closed the restaurant on April 5. The restaurant was allowed to reopen on April 7 after thorough cleaning and disinfection.
