2023-2024 Multi-Province Outbreak of Listeriosis Associated with Silk and Great Value brand Beverages, Canada
On July 17, 2024, Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) announced an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes linked to consumption of Silk and Great Value brands of plant-based milk, including almond and coconut milk. People became sick between August 2023 and mid-July July 2024. A total of 20 outbreak cases were detected. Fifteen people were hospitalized and 3 people died. Cases were reported by Alberta (1), Ontario (13), Quebec (5) and Nova Scotia (1).
Plant based milk products produced by Silk and Great Value were recalled on July 8, 2024.
