CDC, along with state and federal health and regulatory officials investigated an outbreak of cyclosporiasis in 2023. As of June 22, 2023, a total of 210 illnesses had been reported by 22 states. Thirty people had been hospitalized. No deaths were reported.

A common source for all cases had not been identified. However, 20 cases in Georgia and Alabama were linked to raw broccoli. FDA and state and local partners conducted a traceback investigation of the broccoli. However, they were unable to confirm the specific type or producer of the imported broccoli as the source of the outbreak. There was no indication that broccoli was the source of illness for other cases of cyclosporiasis being reported in the United States.
