2023 Multistate Outbreak of Norovirus Associated with Frozen Oysters Imported from Korea
In May and June 2023, cases of norovirus associated with eating raw oysters were reported by Minnesota and Hawaii.
Five individuals in Hawaii consumed raw oysters at a restaurant on May 10, 2023. Traceback information revealed the source for the implicated raw oysters was a shipment by Dai One Food Co., Ltd., Republic of Korea, harvested on 4/13/2022 and 4/14/2022. Samples collected from the 4/14/2022 harvest date were positive for norovirus GII.
The Minnesota Department of Health notified the FDA of 5 norovirus illnesses from individuals who consumed raw oysters at a restaurant in Minnesota on Jue 3, 2023 and June 4, 2023. Traceback information revealed the source for the implicated raw oysters was from a shipment by Dai One Food Co., Ltd., Republic of Korea, harvested on 2/17/2022.
