2023 Outbreak of Bacillus cereus Infections at Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse, New York
In September 2023, more than two dozen people got sick after eating at Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse in Stony Brook, New York. Suffolk County Health Department says people were likely sickened by mishandled and improperly stored rice. There were 28 reported illnesses. Twelve were taken to the hospital but not admitted.
The department issued 15 violations to the restaurant including 8 for foodborne illness risk factors.
