In June 2023, public health officials in Iowa investigated an outbreak of illnesses suspected to be caused by infection with Clostridium perfringens. Twenty-nine people were ill. No one was hospitalized and no one died. The implicated vehicle of transmission was shredded chicken. The setting was reported as caterer and a sit-down dining restaurant.
