2023 Outbreak of Listeriosis Associated with Frugals Restaurant, Washington

Six people were infected with Listeria monocytogenes after eating milkshakes from Frugals restaurant located at 10727 Pacific Avenue South in Tacoma, Washington. All six people were hospitalized. Three people died. Five of the reported cases lived in Pierce County. One case lived in Thurston County. Onset of illness ranged from February 27 to June 30, 2023.

Public health investigators collected milkshake samples at the Frugals in Tacoma on August 8. Ten days later, all flavors of the milkshakes were found to be contaminated with the same strain of Listeria that caused the outbreak.
