2023 Outbreak of Norovirus at a Mexican Food Restaurant, Kansas
In March 2023, public health officials in Kansas conducted an investigation of norovirus illness among patrons of a Mexican food restaurant located in Harvey County, Kansas. A total of 9 cases were identified, 3 were laboratory confirmed with norovirus. Five cases were restaurant staff. Onset dates ranged from February 20, 2023 to March 3, 2023.
Kansas Department of Agriculture staff conducted a food safety inspection on March 7, 2023. The following violations were noted: inadequate hot and cold holding temperatures for food items and lack of handwashing soap at sink.
