2023 Outbreak of E. coli O157 Infections at the University of Arkansas

In late August 2023, the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) announced an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses among students who attend the University of Arkansas. The university was working closely with the ADH to help identify the source of the outbreak and provide guidance to help prevent additional infections.

ADH identified 42 individuals as part of the outbreak. Four cases were hospitalized.

A press release issued by the University of Arkansas on September 7 stated that the ADH had no reason to believe the outbreak was connected to the university's dining facilities.
