2024 Outbreak of Gastrointestinal Illness Associated with Egg Ceteras Blue Star Cafe & Pub, Washington
In August 2024, two people became ill with symptoms consistent with a bacterial toxin after eating fried sliced potatoes at Egg Ceteras Blue Star Cafe & Pub in Seattle, Washington. No one was hospitalized and no one died. The implicated meal date was August 18, 2024.
On September 4, 2024, Public Health Seattle King County (PHSKC) conducted an onsite investigation at the restaurant. They identified practices that increased the risk for growth of bacterial toxin such as unsafe cooling and refrigeration of food.
Investigators suspected that Clostridium perfringens or Bacillus cereus were the agents causing illness.
