2025 Outbreak of E. coli O157 Infections Associated with Tokyo Stop Teriyaki, Washington
Public Health Seattle & King County (PHSKC) investigated an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections associated with Tokyo Stop Teriyaki located in Bellevue, Washington. A total of 5 people were ill. Four people were hospitalized. No one died. Dates of illness onset ranged from November 26, 2025 and December 1, 2025. Implicated meal dates were November 24, 2025 and November 26, 2025.
On December 12, 2025, the restaurant was closed. An inspection conducted on December 13, 2025 found several contributing factors including sinks for washing meats and vegetables were too close together, and tools and surfaces used for raw meat were not sanitized properly.
One additional King County resident diagnosed with a genetically indistinguishable strain of E. coli O157:H7 as Tokyo Stop Teriyaki cases was identified. This person did not eat at the restaurant, suggesting that the vehicle of transmission was a contaminated food product served at the restaurant and elsewhere.
