2026 Multistate Outbreak of E. coli O145 Infections Associated with Frozen Blueberries
In July 2026, public health officials in several states investigated an outbreak of Shiga toxin E. coli (STEC) associated with frozen blueberries.
As of July 6, 20206, 12 people with the outbreak strain of E. coli O145 were reported from 2 states, Georgia and Florida. Illness onset dates ranged from May 11, 2026 to June 5, 2026. Of 12 people with available information, 4 were hospitalized. No deaths were reported.
Epidemiologic data show that frozen GreenWise brand organic blueberries sold at Publix were the source of the outbreak. On July 3, 2026, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., San Carlos, Chile recalled frozen GreenWise brand organic blueberries.
