In 2026, local, state and federal public health and regulatory officials investigated an outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections associated with cantaloupe. A total of 70 people infected with the outbreak strain were reported from 25 states.

FDA's traceback investigation identified Ayco Farms Inc. of Pompano Beach, Florida as a common supplier of imported cantaloupes from Guatemala. Ayco Farms issued a recall on March 24, 2026.
