1993 Outbreak of Gastrointestinal Illnesses Linked to Apalachicola Oysters, Florida
Seven separate outbreaks of foodborne illness related to the consumption of oysters were simultaneously investigated by health units in Northwestern Florida. The illnesses were linked to the consumption of oysters that had been harvested from what was thought to be a safe source in Apalachicola Bay, Florida. At least 90 illnesses were reported with at least ten illness confirmed by serologic testing.
