The investigation of the outbreak interviewed the attendees about their food histories and performed a case-control study to determine the likely source of the illness. One of the party attendees reported illness prior to attending and was indicated as the source. Oddly, consumption of Mountain Dew soda was a statistically significant exposure. The soda had been stored in the bathroom sink in an ice water bath. The can was likely contaminated when handled by the ill person.
