2012 Outbreak of Norovirus at a California Pizza Kitchen Location, California
A California Pizza Kitchen located in Walnut Creek, California was temporarily shut down after a norovirus outbreak made more than 60 diners sick according to Contra Costa County Health Department officials. Ill persons ate at the restaurant between June 7 and June 13, 2012. Test results confirmed that 3 employees and 2 customers tested positive for norovirus. Health department inspections identified "some things that made us concerned while we were there..." health department director, Mary Underwood, said.
The restaurant reopened on June 16 after a thorough cleaning. Restaurant staff were required to take training class on norovirus awareness and cleaning before they were allowed to returned to work.
