1989 Outbreak of Hepatitis A at a Chain Restaurant, Washington
In May, Seattle-King County Department of Public Health (SKCDPH) investigated 213 cases of Hepatitis A--a threefold increase over the average of 68 cases reported in each of the first 4 months of 1989. Most of the ill (117 persons) had eaten at one outlet of a Seattle-area restaurant chain. Restaurant workers were among those confirmed to have Hepatitis A, but none of these illnesses explained the original exposure to Hepatitis A virus as these illnesses were concurrent with the patrons' illnesses.
