2011 Outbreak of Vibrio cholera at a Resort, Dominican Republic
At least 37 people developed cholera after eating lobster served to them during a wedding reception held in an exclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. The lobster was purchased in Pedernales, a town near the border with Haiti. Haiti had been dealing with outbreaks of cholera that began in the aftermath of a recovery from an earthquake disaster. The ill were from Venezuela, Spain, Mexico, and Massachusetts. The Dominican Republic and Haiti are located on the island of Hispanola.
