In July, the local health department received notification from a business that there appeared to be a foodborne outbreak. Employees of the business reported gastrointestinal distress on July 13. The health department sent workers to interview the employees, and through these interviews they found that 24 of the 54 employees had become ill. They also noted there had been two shared meals during lunch on July 11 and 12. Five stool samples were collected, and all five tested positive for Norovirus G2. Due to the short time period between illness on-set and the shared meals, the health department workers determined the meals were not likely the cause of the illness. The source was not determined, but person-to-person contact likely aided in the spread of the pathogen.
