The local health department investigated a cluster of gastrointestinal illness cases involving a conference held in St. Augustine, Florida. Over one hundred conference vendors reported illness in late January. Investigators conducted a case-control study and found that vendors who had attended a special luncheon on January 20, were nine times more likely to have become ill. They also performed laboratory testing on stool samples to determine the etiology of the disease. Two of the three collected tested positive for G2 Norovirus.
