2012 Outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 at a Picnic, Ohio
At least 75 people were sickened after attending a picnic hosted by Neff's Lawn Care located in Germantown, Ohio. Up to 300 persons attended the picnic held on July 3, 2012.
Fourteen people were hospitalized. Three patients developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). A 73-year old patient died as a result of his infection. Eighteen of the ill persons were laboratory confirmed with E. coli O157. One secondary case of E. coli O157 was reported. The secondary infection was likely passed from an older sister to a younger sister.
