A southwest Mississippi grocery store was implicated in an outbreak of salmonellosis in March of 2006. Laboratory studies of stool samples provided by case-patients showed that the case-patients were infected with the same strain of Salmonella Heidelberg. Macaroni and cheese that had been purchased at the grocery deli was a risk factor for developing this illness as per the analysis of the food histories. An inspection of the of the grocery found multiple violations including improper holding temperatures, and storage procedures.
