As many as three hundred people became ill due to an outbreak of Norovirus at the Harvard University Faculty Club Restaurant. The first wave of the outbreak began in late March resulting in the restaurant's closure between March 30 and April 3, the day before Easter. More cases were reported after the restaurant reopened; the restaurant was closed again on April 6. Many of the ill during the first outbreak wave were visiting students. The restaurant was thoroughly cleaned, but apparently the cleaning failed to prevent the second wave of illnesses. Although Harvard Faculty Club employees were screened for the illness before the club reopened, there was a possibility that at least one employee carried the virus without any symptoms. The restaurant did not reopen again until May 17.
