Complaints of gastrointestinal illness were reported to the state department of health from a group who ate at a Hibbing, Minnesota restaurant on May 13. The party was interviewed and five primary cases were found. Analysis of their food histories showed significant risk associated with consumption of the Mediterranean turkey sandwich and salad. Stool samples were collected from two cases; both samples tested positive for Norovirus. The restaurant was inspected and it was noted that three employees had been ill in the previous weeks. Violations related to food handling were also noted. Health department workers determined the outbreak to be from contamination of foods from ill workers.
